how does one find out if a "low" or "moderate risk" sex offender lives in one's neighborhood? Also, why are no known sex offenders listed in Teton County?

Low and Moderate Risk offenders will soon be listed on the website also. For now, go to your county sherriff's office and ask if any live in your area. If they live within 750 feet of you, you would have been notified already by mail.

Why do they let these sex offenders live so close to a school? 750 feet? What good is that? I can throw a rock that far, so to me that's just a stupid rule. I want to know if one lives on the same side of town I do. I think if one is paroled here, or is on probation here in this COUNTY they should let EVERYONE know!

CJ: your comment is why many consider the registry a waste of time (IMHO). The ones committing the crimes now...or about 90% of them, are offenses done by those NOT on any registry. Therefore, you are using all of your energy fearing some guy on your side of town and ignoring the guy or gal that takes your kid on a weekend overnight! Abuse is usually done by someone you now know...not some stranger.

They live near schools because the State feels that amount of distance is long enough. They also feel that when some of these offenders, or preditors get released they are less likely to re-offend due too their time, and therpy they got in prision. They say it's proven most do not re-offend when released, that is why it is that way. HeX

I disagree that they will not re-offend. The research shows that sex offenders CANNOT be rehabilitated. The only thing that has worked sometimes is chemical or surgical castration, which some offenders actually request. Even they know they are out of control. Why can't the law makers see this?

FYI Non-compliant Registrant ID #22XX has re-offended in CO and will be sentenced in Larimer County Jan. 26,2008. Found to be naked from the waste down when pulled over in June 2008, he was released with a warning and allowed to attempt to victimize my 14 year old in July. My child thwarted this attempt and was rewarded with a 3rd degree assault charge!How can both parties (one of them a child) be guilty? Had this pedophile been given an appropriate sentence in 2003, he wouldn't have been able to re-offend for several years to come. I only pray he gets the full12 tomorrow, which isn't nearly enough given his history.

I seen that there were at least one offender in "non-compliant" status. What does this mean? For that matter, what is the states definition of "compliant?" I think it is important that moderate and low level sex offenders be listed as well, as most convictions are reduced from more sever charges that were either not proven or reduced through the plea bargain process.

After reviewing the wyoming register, it appeared to me that only the highest risk offenders are listed at this time. What is concerning for me, and should be for all, is that moderate and low severity sex crimes are many times convictions that may only be proved by the prosecutor or are convictions that are derived through the plea bargain process. This just happens to be how our legal systems works. The registry only shows the sex offense the predator is convicted of, you would be surprised of the number of other crimes many are also convicted of.

i noticed that the description mentioned the list was comprised of offenders who were at high risk of reoffending. my husband was convicted 25 years ago for having sex with his girlfriend, he was 18 she was 16. he has been compliant and has never reoffended. i think its wrong to label people incorrectly with no thought as to what it does to them and thier family for 25+ years. i think that serious offenders need to be kept track of but i think there sould be better laws to help those who stay compliant and dont offend again especially after 25+ years.

Why are high risk sex offenders that are on the registery allowed to stay at the homeless shelter in Cheyenne when they also have children staying at that facility? These predators get to eat, sleep, shower and watch TV in the same building and most of the time the same room as young children.

Dear Jen. I agree with you 100%. I was 16 and my high school girlfriend was 15. This happened 20 years ago. I feel that after 20+ years you should be able to move on. Another thing that bugs me is there were no registered sex offender stipulations when I was sentenced. I was sentenced to 5 years probation. When the registery became public in 1996 I was not on it. I got a letter in 2001 11 years after my sentence that I have to register as a sex offender. So why after 11 years now I am consired dangerous. Makes no sense. I too have never been arrested or in trouble for anything since. They need to change things.

Mike: you may want to check more closely to see if any lawyers have started "ex post facto" suit in your state. (most attorneys will know if this is going on) Several cases now exist and in one state I know of, the state legislature has had to re examine the registration law, change it, or have it declared unconstitutional under the state's constitution.

I hope everyone reads this article. Just copy and paste it into your browser. This man has been all over the country trading and selling vehicles for probably 20 years. When he lived in our town he molested several children but they did not speak up until last year and we hadn't heard about him until now. Please if you have had or know of a child that this man has offended, contact the newspaper and let them know. There is a lot more to this man than they know and we have to get the word out because he just got a slap on the wrist. This could happen to his grandchildren, if not already. He MUST be put on the registry NOW.

The charge carries a maximum sentence of five years in prison, according to Wyoming state statute." This man only got 4 years of SUPERVISED probation. Do they really think this will stop him?

Showing everyone on the registry will make it almost useless and is only there because polititians want it to seem like they are making the public safe. Those in the lowest catagory, such as those involved in consentual, although illegal, relationships with older teens who have test results showing they are not likely to reoffend do not need to be on the public list and especially should not be subject to restrictions about where they can and cannot live. It's absolutely ridiculous.

Ok, here is my question. I have a daughter who is engaged to a prior offender. His offence was having the bad judgement of dating an under age girl when he was in his early 20's. Her father pressed charges after their daughter was born. My question is. How are people like him supposed to get on with his life and support his daughter if no one will let him live in any ones neighborhood. I want to help him and my daughter, but now I have been threatened with eviction if he doesn't move out of my house (I owned the mobile home but not the lot). This just seems so unfair.!
