What to do about those sex offenders who are not convicted because the victim is unable to testify in open court ? I know of two in my small area.

My brother and I were both abused by my stepfather. Now I find out that he's not registered as an offender in any state! I read on one site that he's only required to register as a sex offender for 20 years. Is this true? He has another 5 years to go before he hits the 20 year mark.

I saw this man messing with this little boy in his SUV. I got his name from a worker at his employer. They told me the little boy was his grandson. Thats sick. He is about 50 years old. He lives in the Scottsdale Az area and works for a hospital called Kindred. If you can please let me know what to do and how I get the word out and to who on this guy I would be grateful.

This is true Don. The stats are 75% of all offenders re-offend... That means 25% do not. So.. there are many who understand their bad choices and reform. Too bad we have to suspect all.. when there could be many who are decent citizens now. What can we do?

Most of you have no clue. I am a sex offender and did 15 years in prison. The buck stops there. If you do the right things your chances of not re offending are far greater than those that sit and do nothing at all.

What are all the stupid and excuses for? There is no doubt everyone has an idea about right and wrong. I was a victim also, I am 31 years old and never did I ever try to do this to anyone or child. My son is a victim of my brother but I helped him threw the hard times (courts) and counciling. He is now in boarding school a successful basketball and football player. There are no excuses, forget the statistics. There will always be victims. Most parents look the other way but I was very fortunate to have caring, loving grandparents. I am a single, employed mother of five children, my eldest son is twelve. There are non excuses people...either you are or you aren't.

Anonymous , spend your freedom learning to spell and write a coherent sentence instead of suing the system. Why did you have child porn on you computer? Oh, I know the little kids at your house did it. The laws are for people like you, pal.

In Florida pursuant to the Walsh Act, all the sheriff's went to people as far back as 30 years sent officers to there house and carried them down to make them register as sex offenders, I was targeted in an internet case in 2001 following the passing on Ch. 2001-54 , Senate Bill 144, which cerated Fl. Stat. 847.0138, originally I was told I was arrested on child porn charges, paid a attorney 10 grand, after 5 months I seen the guy 3 times, I was forced to plea guilty to 1 count of 847.0138 (non sex offence), got 1 year county, & 3 years paper, the state said on the record that the crime was not a sex offence, this was 4/02 sentncing. On 1/03 I was violated on a techincal VOP for having phone sex with my girlfriend, the judge give me the max of 5 years, and restated I was not going to be a sex offender, 2 months before I was released I got a letter stating I would have to register as a sex offender when I was released from prison. I obtained the state attorney file on my case, the FDLE lab report on my computer reveiled on child porn, nor did it show or has 7 volumes of appellate record show any mention I sent harmful materal to the officer as he sworn in the search warrent, plus the report showed tampering with my harddrive, I filed 8 different writs and post conviction motions that clearly showed the crime did not occur, the state courts thumbed there noes at me, so you guys think you got it hard, I lost my career as a truck driver of which I had 25 years in, NOBODY will hire a sex offender, I hoping I can come up with the $ to file a civil rights suit in federal court, Florida will not let you withdraw your plea from sex offender obligations that's contrary to your plea agreement, there is no level 1,2,3, just like Nancy Grace calls all offenders Sexual Predators, that's what Florida see you as.

A male friend of mine who was still a virgin at the age of 21 became a lifetime member of the AZ sex offender registry with 10 years probation when he was convicted for licking the breast of a 16 year old female that asked him if he wanted to lick her breast! I think that the sex offender registry needs to include more detail on the offense rather than just the charge and in this case the charge was the lowest rung on the sexual offenses ladder (sexual abuse) and also the date of the offense should be included. In this case he was assigned a level II because there were other minors present. This is one of the saddest cases I have ever heard of in my entire life. So in my opinion, not all sex offenders are monsters. Now as for sexual predators and those that violate children, they are the real monsters.

to anon Oct 16: It is a good thing you can talk about what happened to you. Hopefully, you have found a support group or therapist to help you deal with the pain from your uncle's sick behavior. (IMO)The problem with the registry is that now many more incidents like yours are NOT being reported BECAUSE the family members know the "uncle" will be put on the registry for life. Statistics are beginning to bear this out. I have no advice regarding your mother. Hopefully, a professional can help. Thank you for sharing.

I am a vibtim of sexual abuse from a family member. It began when I was three and didn't end until I was about eight. I have decided that at the ripe old age of 31 I want to confront my abuser. The problem that I am facing is the abuser is an uncle who has abused several girls in my family, and out of my grandmothers nine children, they all know what he did. He was caught in the act in the early seventies by none other than my own mother. She did not say anything to him or her parents or the police. A few years later I was born and at he age of two or three, my mother moved back into her mothers house. We lived with four of my mothers siblings including the pervert that everyone pretended wasn't a pervert. I don't remember the dirty details just the dirty details that I inflicted on myself. Forcing the family pet to lick my vagina (age 4) putting objects inside of myself (age 4-15), putting a paper penis on my teddy bear and licking it to see if I could make him feel good. These are serious signs of abuse right? It is because of these memories that the person I am choosing to confront is my mother. Not thesick and deranged uncle. I have serious anger issues with my mother. I mailed her a goodbye letter today giving her my sad memories and my hurt. I said that she knew he was sick and didn't help him then, she let that sickness into my home and into my bed. She is my abuser and the enabler of the molester. I gave her all the shame that I have been carrying around for so long. I am relieved to know that I can face my fears. She has been my nightmare and now she is becoming a memory. Thank you for listening.

i pray that serious sex offenders are catorigized as such, but those offenders wrongly accused, or who have married the "victim" or are registerd for 'petty' offenses, like urinating in public, havin sex in public, should NOT be put in the same class as the real monsters out there...........

I would like to know what determines a Level 1 ,2 ,and 3.

Posted by Anonymous (not registered) on Jul 29, 2008 12:40 PM

All of you cho mos who are sticking up for these guys your probably one yourself ,shut your mouth and get some help.

Posted by Oldtimer on May 30, 2008 08:54 AM

az mom: I believe it is universal now, that "if you have to register in your state, then you must register in the state you move to". The Feds claim that they can follow and check this using finances, license etc. and it is a crime in most cases , not registering. The system has its flaws. Lack of police etc to follow all of this. For example, my state goes back to 82 forcing registration. How would they catch a guy from NJ with a crime in 1984, if the guy did not have to register in his state of NJ. This is why the Feds want to make this new law the same in all states.

Posted by azmom on May 29, 2008 10:37 PM

If you are registered as a sex offener in one state, does it still show up for other states/maening, I know it would only be for AZ if that's where it was issued for, but is it only "good" in AZ, or does it effect him if he goes to other states? He's not on the community notification, because it was before 1996, for his release form prison. He's at a lever "0' also do to a mistake made at the prison upon his release, where he wasn't assesed/told he had to register. So now, 15 yrs later he's getting the mistake fixed, but it doesn't seem like there's any real "repercusions' or being on this list really for him. No one's really going to be aware of it. his name won't come up anywhere. It's very frusterating.

Posted by Anonymous (not registered) on Mar 14, 2008 11:09 AM

I think this is a good way to do things, because the ones that arent listed are things like takin a piss on the highway, or flashing (a common college ritual). i think it would be rediculous, and a waste of resources to make these people register.

Posted by dee (not registered) on Mar 05, 2008 01:46 PM

as much as i hate to admit my brother is doing time in prison in az for messing with a child, if the family had spoken up years ago this child would not have to had to go through with this BS he did to her and even his own children so i believe there is no rehab for sex offenders, but would like to know how to pull up his record to see what else he has done anyone can tell me how .

Posted by aNONYMOUS (not registered) on Feb 09, 2008 05:24 AM

I think any person touching a CHILD inappropriately should EXPECT THE MAX. The thoughts that stay in that childs mind LAST a LIFETIME.!!!

Posted by Anonymous (not registered) on Aug 09, 2007 01:54 PM

That's why they need to give details of the crime committed.

Posted by Anonymous (not registered) on Jun 05, 2007 11:22 AM

Ok... I will be the first to admit that I don't know a lot about Stats, and numbers and all that fancy jargon, But I do relate closely to this. I think it is a good thing that only some of the sex offenders are exposed. Before you get angry, let me explain... what if you are a 19 yr old "man" and you are dating a 16 yr old girl? Yes this is considered a Class 6 felony, and many people feel strongly against it... but I feel some empathy should be shown for this 19 yr old "man" Remember, he is still a teen and doesn't have his head on straight, What if he truly, honestly feels like he "LOVES" this girl? do you honestly feel your 8 yr old boy is at any sort of risk?... OR are we just trying to make a Martyr out of a young man who (According to Law) has made a mistake? I don't think it is right to destroy a young man's life before hes even man enough to buy alcohol... If this has offended you in any way, Im sorry... maybe you will understand when your 8yr old lil Jimmy makes the same dreadful mistake, and falls for his childhood girlfriend who is only 3 yrs younger than him... down the road, whats a couple of years... enough to ruin a young mans life? Apparently so...

KANGSGOD1,

YOUR WORDS OF NON-WISDOM NEED TO GO TO TALKING TO INMATES, INSTEAD OF TALKING TO WORRIED PEOPLE ABOUT THE SAFETY OF THEIR CHILDREN. I GIVE YOU A A PLUS FOR YOUR WANT TO BE KNOWLEDGE, BUT FOR THE FACTS YOU LACK EVERYTHING THAT IS IMPORTANT TO HUMANS WITH HEARTS THAT CARE. IT IS O.K. TO NOT BE A SHOW OFF ON HERE AS A NO IT ALL, IF THATS THE CASE YOU WOULD'NT GIVE THE SIGHTS YOU DO FOR PEOPLE TO PULL UP ON UNLESS THEY ARE OFFENDERS THEMSELVES. FET A LIFE, THIS IS A SIGHT TO TRY TO HELP OTHERS KNOW WHAT TO DO TO PROTECT THEIR CHILDREN, NOT LEAD THEM INTO A OFFENDERS ARMS. TAMMY (HEXGIRL)

Airluwena: that percentage rate is based on studies of those who have been released from prison and the amount of cases where crimes are re-committed. It is not a percentage for the amount of cases that happen: reported and unreported. (IMHO)

Posted by Anonymous (not registered) on May 14, 2007 07:57 PM

You can't forget that many people that have been victims become offenders themselves in different ways. I'd like to see the stats on that one. Also the "family secrets" that go on without anyone knowing. I know I was a victim.

Posted by Airluwena (not registered) on Apr 22, 2007 04:46 PM

Well yes there might be a low re-commit rate, but have you seen the estimated total of victims who've remained silent? With murder, you usually have a dead body which is evident enough of a crime.

How about you make an informed comment, as you cautioned the person above you to do the same? Those who've been sexually abused have a high rate of suicide, addiction, and a laundry list of other mental illnesses that not only effect themselves, but those around them.

Posted by khansgod01 on Apr 22, 2007 12:29 PM

Sorry but again another myth that you hold dear to is TOTALLY untrue! According to the Dept of Justice, sex offenders recommit only5.3% ( http://www.ojp.usdoj.gov/bjs/abstract/rsorp94.htm ) of sex crimes , the LOWEST re-offence rate, except for murder. Please educate yourself before making a blanket statement like that.

Posted by Hexgirl on Apr 17, 2007 03:36 PM

it needs to for all offenders, because when someone touches or trys to touch a child, that is just as bad, in time they will re-act towards their actions, and feelings. and people question why this keeps happening.

Posted by khansgod01 on Apr 16, 2007 10:09 PM

As it should!! Remember, the sex offender registries were INTENDED for the most SERIOUS offenders as worded by the Jacob-Whetterling Act (sp)
