it should be free to look at where the people live around us that are sex offenders. but that is pretty neat how we can look at how many there are.

Yes most states do offer free sex offender checks, but this site offers a few other tools with the fee. I found it very interesting and much easier to use then having to surf to many states to check on names. We use this for our small business to do quick checks on both customers and employees.

How are we to keep our kids or anyone else safe if we cannot see who and where they are staying. The law says they try to keep kids safe well I just don't see how they are if we can't even check on these offenders
I aslo feel it should be free, especially since we as tax payers house all those so's in prision anyway, not to minshone it helps parents or grandparents, people in general know where they live, I know they have free other sights to view information on, but I feel that all the web sights in this manner should be free to everyone.
Yes several sex offenders live in my area, and the bad part about it is it is a family park with (lots) of children that run around daily, and nightly, not to minshone we have two swimming areas that they all use alot. I don't understand if they are supposed to regestier every 6 months why the state does not know they live here? which sickens me because they again are not keeping up on where these so's live and where I live is proff of that.

Its sad they talk about sex offenders all the time, but they always want you to put money down just to view sex offenders. I live in Mississippi and have two young boys. I would like to know how many sex offenders i have in my neighborhood without having to always put money dow.=n.

Hexgirl, youv'e gotta get past your fear factor. It is not knowing that the guy down the street is offender that makes you "safe". It is the understanding of the behavior that will be your savior. Chances are, YOU knew the guy who molested your son. Had you considered that almost all sexual offence is done by someone in the family or by a friend of the family you may have been able to prevent the act. We need to knock off this fear factor and begin to educate. Even the person running this site has given things to watch out for.
No one has yet proven....No one.....that the registry has protected one person. If anything, it is giving you a false sense of security.
Im sure some find it fun to pick on people trying to start over and make ammends for their conviction, hence: "the where does he live syndrome". Punishment is issued by the courts. If you don't like it, then Fix the laws. But please , people, lets stop judging our neighbors.

During September 1998, the Research Unit of the Arizona Department of Corrections. (ADC) completed an analysis of sex offenders released from ADC custody over the ten-year period from July 1988 through June 1998.
2,444 sex offenders were released from ADC custody over the ten-year period. The average period of follow-up (to June 30, 1998) for all sex offenders was 54.5 months. Among the 2,444, 509 or 20.8 % returned at least once to the custody of the Department, including 346 or 14.2% with new felony convictions. While sex offenders returned to prison for a variety of new crimes, 78 or 3.2% returned for a new felony sex offense.
Among the 2,444 released sex offenders, 1,087 (44.5%) were released to the supervision of ADC parole officers. Among this group, eight (8) or 0.7% were found to have committed a new sex offense during the period of parole supervision. Among the eight (8), one (1) or 0.1% returned to custody with a new sex offense conviction while still under supervision. The remaining seven (7) were returned to custody after termination of the period of supervision.
The most serious new sex offense committed by the 78 sex offense recidivists was:
Child molestation or sexual conduct with a minor 34(44% of 78)
Rape or sexual assault 22(28%)
Sexual indecency (exposing) 14(18%)
Sexual abuse 8(10%)

Let’s set the record straight. Do I believe there should be a sex offender registry? YES. Do I believe that society should know if a child molester lives near one's home? YES. Do I believe that people who rape women, molest children, and create child porn should be tracked or given 25 years to life? YES!!!!
HOWEVER, THERE IS A PROBLEM
NOT ALL SEX OFFENDERS FALL UNDER THIS CATEGORY!
I am a sex offender who just got the bad end of the stick. When I was 17, I was approached by a young lady who was 15. I was a junior at the time and she was a sophomore. We were at the wrong place at the wrong time and were caught by a teacher. There was not intercourse whatsoever. We were just flirting. Of course, by the way she came on to me, I thought I everything was all good and we were going to get intimate. But when she said that her period was on, that was all I needed to hear but it was too late because the teacher was on her way to the office. So guess what? The girl flipped the script! Since my mom wasn't financially able to hire a lawyer, I had to get a public defender. He told me since I was 17 and she was 15, I was one race and she was another race, and since our high school was very prestigious in our city, the best thing for me to do is to plead guilty. If not, I would be found guilty and sentenced to 20 years in prison. The girl didn't prosecute nor the parents. The state picked it up and railroaded me!

Had I known that it was against the law, I would have given her the cold shoulder. I could understand if I was 17 and the girl was in middle school or elementary school. I could even understand if she was a freshman but that wasn't the case.
Ten years have passed and I’m about to graduate from college. Even though I am no longer required to register, my MUGSHOT still remains on the registry. I've applied with companies and when the question "have you ever been convicted of a felony" comes up, I always put yes and state that the charge has been pardoned. Employers would call me in for an interview and when the subject is addressed, I would explain the situation and remain straightforward. Two employers still hired me and once the background check comes back and it shows that I am a sex offender on the registry "something that they knew before the background check was received, I get an adverse action letter of employment and a door slammed in my face! What is the purpose of the pre-screening process and the "have you ever been convicted of a felony" question or the interviews?
IT'S THE CHILD MOLESTERS, RAPISTS, CHILD-PORN PEDIPHILES, SICK PERVERTS, AND THE MEDIA THAT MAKES MY DREAMS OF JUST LIVING A NORMAL EVAPORATE.

Hexgirl I'm not sure about Florida laws but I know for a fact in Georgia sex offenders must not only obey the laws of the State but also the rules which are set down by the counseling center they attend. Which means if you violate counseling rules you can be kicked out of the program which in turn violates probation. So if you have sex offenders swimming where children are that is no doubt a violation. You should be able to speak with the offenders probation officer (State Probation) and notify him/her of the situation. They may not give you which counseling center he attends but I would think if he's doing his job he would stop that kind of thing. This type of contact with minors should be off limits to any good counseling center.
I would also like to say, Any sex offender who is putting themselves in this type of environment around children should be a Big Red Flag. All children should be off limits with no contact anything other than this is unacceptable behavior. Of course I realize not all contact can be avoided but to intentionally put yourself into that situation is potentially dangerous.

Registration is dandy. However, I notice some of my comments never make it to the site as it is now. The site does put most of the comments on but still weeds out others even if they are written with clean english and honest emotion. If the site posted all of my comments, I would register, I guess.
You have no right to say that I just don't know whats happening in this field. I have experienced sexual and physical abuse and I have abused and paid my dues for my error in judgement. I have also actively worked with my local legislature on laws.

Many of the ex offenders I have spoken to ,try to create a self employment situation. You are not alone on the employment application problem. If it helps, try to remember that alot of employers have screwed up in their lives (although maybe not as offender) and might decide to give you a change at employment. The registry claims not to be "punishment", but the creators of it in washington have no idea what it is like for ANY felon to apply for work. Good luck with it.

I have a son who was convicted back when he was 14 of a sex offense, Shortly he will be returned to society on his 21st birthday with a pardon, only required to register with the state. I am concerned with the postings of Hexgirl, sounds to me if she had her way, every single sex offender would be executed, or at least locked away for life. This disturbs me, as I know of a few in my own neighborhood. One makes furniture, another is a truck driver delivering goods and produce. Both are now decent, honorable, tax paying citizens. One of them is a veteran, an individual who would lay his life down willingly to allow the rest of us to enjoy the freedoms we have, including freedom of speech. That's right, one of the people she attacks is willing to die her right to do so, so who is the better person here? The repentant offender, or the bereaved mother who isn't satisfyed with a 20 year conviction for a single offense?
Stop the hate! Quit trying to distroy lives and work towards making them better, the victims as well as the offenders. Most states are geared towards punishment, not rehabilitation. Lock a man up with animals and he becomes an animal, then release him back into society? That isn't the answer.
My son has the deck stacked against him, he will be severly limited to where he can work, where he can live, etc. I wouldn't doubt if Hexgirl had her way, SO's wouldn't be allowed into places of worship to even pray.
Hexgirl, if your so mad at the USA, move to the middle east. Saudi Arabia beheads child molesters; in the nation of Amman, they publicly executed by disemboweling them in sporting arenas to the chears of angry mobs, sound like it would be up your alley.

Jack, you make some real good points. As a veteran myself, I don't agree with this love it or leave it approach. In America, it should be: "If you don't like the way things are...then work to change them." It used to be free. This is crap. As a single young lady living on my own, I would use such sites to see who the people were lurking around my neighborhood. But now I have to pay $10.00 to do so. Its not right. This should be FREE knowledge.

i am an incest survivor and i just found out there is a sexual predator living in my complex i thought the manegement was supposed to inform tennits of scum moving into there complex
They are if they are reg... as a offender, or the police is supposed to inform everyone in the Apartment complex on his living arg... I know I used to take care of two apt.. complex's but when I ran the background checks if anything was on there period no matter what the crime was we were not allowed to rent the apartment to them. Either that or he or she could be useing another name onthe Apartment, and have it in there name so he could live there. I would check into it further, and see what you can find out. Yes the laws are getting better to protect children. The big problem is that to many people when they think something is wrong they turn their heads the other way. They think it is not their problem. Well it is everybody's problem and the public had better wake up and smell the roses. Then when the kids get in the system and there is no proof of abuse they still keep the kids comming back saying that they are showing signs of abuse when it has already been proven that there was none. You see it is not just the laws that needs to be fixed it is the system also. The child likes the attention that they are getting from the specilast so they continue to lie about the abuse that they were told to tell. The parents or others involved continue to make it worse by telling them that they really do remember the bad things they are spouting. Have they ever done a mental evaluation on the parents to make sure they should even have kids in their house? Not that I can find. This is not anything against this one lady here. I have a brother who has been accusied of doing stuff to his grand daughter by his son and his wife. it was proven that he never touched her but he is still being investigated by the dhs and his son and wife are getting other girls to come and lie about my brother also. Where are the laws that say innocent until proven guilty. You see my brother is innocent but he can't even say anything out in public to defend himself because he is still under investigation. Has anyone ever looked into the fact that splitting up families is doing damage to the children that live in that home. My brother had to leave his home because of this on going investigation because he has children that live there. Where are the laws that protect the innocent adults from lies that are being fed to the children by their parents? It was proven that he never touched his grand daughter yet the system is still hovering over them. His son is still calling him and saying that he is going to put him and his mother in jail for what they have done. Where is his rights ? Why not do a drug test on the parents of the child involved? It is known around town that they do drugs and it has been reported but have they been checked by testing them? No because there is an investigation going on??? Hello? It is not just the laws that need work it is the whole system. Sorry about this but I really needed to vent it somewhere.
The problem is when children speak out no-one listens and the parents who do are accused of lyeing, or makeing the child say that in other family members eyes. Hafe the time the children are telling the truth, and blinded people just can not except the fact that someone they love would have done that, so here come the excuses of it's the parents fault, not the offenders. I have heard and seen so much since my son was molested that i could throw up. esp.. when it comes to parents, and people not listening to a child calling out for help because they were touched wrong, or molested, and it is the child trying to get attenshone, Well I would need someones attenshone if I was molested, which in fact I was too a vict... but i was too upset to tell anyone cause I was threatended by this person, but the ones who do tell as a child are brave, and strong, and should be listened too, esp. by family members that's what they need the most, and Therpy. So as a mother i had to vent. I just can not see a young child making that up, and he should be inve... just too make sure everythings o.k. and even if it comes out the child was not telling the truth he def.. needs therpy to find out why he would make a comment like that. hey let me start off by say hey to all and i got to let you all know some stuff. when i was 17 i had a girl freind that was 15 my family was good freinds with hers and we was dateing for like a yr and yes we had sex both familys was ok with it.and one day at work the cops come and put me in cuffs and i was charged with l&l . some how the state found out and didnt like it and the judge gave me 5 yrs and two yrs on paper. i am now 26 and i have my one family now i got two lil girls . in my case what i did i didnt see what was wrong with it. and now i have my on tattoo shop and my family is happy.but i want to know what you all think about my case im not happy about what happen it messed up my life.now i got all thez rules i have to go by law which sucks so do you all think my case is bad to be on fdle i dont commit please thank you.

Hey back. We all disagree on what is sexual offense is, here. The laws do vary a little by state. (IMO)Oftentimes people feel having sex between a 19yr old and 16 yr old is not rape. The law says it is ,in most cases. In other countries, having relations with a 15yr old is quite legal. Romeo and Juliet were 12 or 13, I believe. Dragging someone into the woods, having sex and killing them, is what this issue is all about. It is what people fear all the time. These people do not deserve freedom or social contact in my opinion. They need to be watched. Cops are spending all their time watching ALL offenders instead with less time for the severe cases. The feds are paying states to register offenders. Big bucks in the millions are being funneled into states. This is one reason legislators are not hearing the protests of some less dangerous offenders. What you did was wrong (IMO), but if you did "the time", and learned from it, ou should be allowed to begin again.

I can relate with your story about your son. The same happened to my son by my brother-in-law. We are going thru the legal circus now. We agreed to a plea bargain and we'll be lucky if we even get to the sentencing date. He was to be sentenced 3 weeks ago but his brilliant defense attorney somehow managed to get a copy of our victims statement (dont' know why the judge gave it to him), ask the judge for a continuence due to the Adams Law and needing to explain it to my brother in law and how it will apply to him (such a lame excuse). But the funniest part is that we live in Ohio and my brother-in-law is from Florida. I think that since he's been charged with Gross Sexual Imposition, there's a big chance that Florida will not let him back. So, he's probably using this time to sell his home and take care of things so he won't have to go back. The judge seems to like him and his high priced lawyer and of course there's only 1 judge in the county where this is taking place. So, the prosecuter isn't much help to us, the victims advocate is a waste and since my husband is a Sheriff's Deputy where we live and not in the county where this is taking place, the judge looks at it as if we're making a big deal out of nothing (oh yeah, so do some of our family members!).
My son was 13yrs old and my brother-in-law was 43. NOT A BIG DEAL?????? This world makes me sick. The judicial system has made the rights of the offender more important than the victim. WHAT ABOUT THE VICTIM'S RIGHTS WHEN THE OFFENDER TOUCHES A CHILD AND FORCES THEMSELVES ON A CHILD? WHERE'S THEIR RIGHTS?
I'm just as angry as Hexgirl. I totally understand where's she's coming from. People who haven't been thru this have no clue. It hurts so much to watch your child go thru this. Especially when it's Christmas morning, about 2:30 am and I had to watch my son go thru a rape kit and try to talk to him about his Christmas presents instead of focusing on what he's going thru!! I wanted to go thru that for him but you can't. Nothing hurts worse besides knowing what my son't already been thru.

Hi, I have a problem and I need some advice. My wife and I are getting divorced and I also found out she is having an affair. The problem with this is he is a registered sex offender. To make matters worse we have a 16 month old daughter involved and my wife has to my knowledge exposed our daughter to being around him at least once. We went to court for contempt because it was stated that this guy was to have "no contact" with our daughter. My lawyer asked for custody to be given to me based on the violation but the judge denied this because he didn't see any immediate threat to our daughter. Also, neither one of us has been awarded custody and she claims to want to work it out for the well being of our daughter. The problem is that on 8-15 he got off of his parole and he can go whereever he wants and noone has to track him. She claims it is over with but I think the only reason she says that is because he affair got exposed in court and the judge warned her not to have our daughter around this guy anymore. It is not stated that he is not to be within 500 ft. of her but I can't trust my wife, my fear is if she exposed our daughter to him once she will do it again and I don't want anything to happen to her. I just keep thinking something will happen to her and I couldn't live with myself if it did. The reason this is so hard is that he raped his eight year old step daughter and I keep thinking my daughter could be next. If anyone has any advice I would surely appreciate it. I don't want to live everyday for the rest of my life thinking that today could be the day my daughter could get raped.

Its over my head. (IMO) I would discuss the issue with a lawyer as to what are your rights and what are his rights when he gets out of prison. You can never totally protect your daughter. You can only do your best as a parent to warn her and keep your eyes open. Good luck with this.

i ahve been reading alot of these comments and am surprised that so many people are so suttle towards these offenders i do believe there should be harsher punishment for sex offenders but i also believe that they should be catergorized by there crime and not be mixed with the actual predetors some r at the wrong place wrong time there should be a law that seperates them by there crime however i am an adult now but when i was a child i became a victim for everyone that hasnt walked a day in my shoes surely should not protect ones that do these acts against children u have no idea how it affects children that is a kind of pain and hurt that will never ever go away it is something that will cross your mind everyday of your life i know it does mine i do think that all sites should be free so people can be aware of who they are and where they live thanks to any that reads my thoughts god bless

This is total CRAP! I've been to my state (Texas) register and find it hard to believe that with the lots of people that are in my zipcode none are near my direct streets. Yes, they do have great photos, I actually recognized a last name from my daughters school, searched and I have seen the man at school before alot. He's always there for special occassions, awards ceremonies, etc. I don't know him, and was really shocked when I realized his pic. was him??? So, why doesn't my street or any near it have any registered offenders? Seems weird with all the others so near. I just wanted to get a better look with site. Guess not!

I think they shouldn't make a big deal of repeating it in the news about sex offenders knowing that if they really cared they would let concerned parents or anyone see it for free.

Pay? You must be "linking" to an advertisers site. The federal registry is free and most state registries are. If you are using a pay site, you are blaming the wrong people. And don't you know this registry thing is about alot of people making millions? Software Companies, advertisers, leg bracelet companies, computers for police, more hiring. Hey, this is ALL a racket. i know that i want to make sure my child is safe and i remember when i was almost kidnapped but i ran and screamed help i was scared to death it was a whole bunch of hispanic guys they opened the trunk i saw rope then bam i saw one man walk towards me i will never forget it and i told my child to be smart if a grown person not just a man askes you something you are supposed to run if they try to come after scream "your not my parent!"

How do I find free pics of registered sexual offenders/ and sexual preditors in my area. I know what he looks like, however his name may be fake. This is in Florida, clay, st johns, and surrounding areas? Please help..... anyone....is there anyone reading this that is in law enforcement that may have this answer.. He's watching children and women..!!

With the court system today, many of the actual offenders never make it to court or on the list. A lot of the minor offenders caught in a situation that may not have been right but certainly did not deserve the punishment they got, are on the list for life. There are many who took a plea because they were being told they would be sent to prison for a longer sentence. They may have been innocent but the prosecutor claimed to have enough evidence to convict. The court system and prosecutors are the culprits along with the Feds for giving the states the money for this registry with no oversight whatsoever. Truthfully the list is so large and unmanageable at this point that you can't possible stay away from everyone on the list.
And rightly so because many will never be a problem to anyone again. Something needs to change in how this is being handled.

I agree how can a org website make you pay to know who is commiting a crime but tell you how many are doing it that just makes it worse what is the world coming to it is all about money
Let's Be clear on 1 thing.These registration sites are simply an Avenue exploited by politicians to bolster there own Personal Agenda for ELECTION.These FEEL GOOD laws are just that.Politicians dont give a rats behind about your safety or mine,or your childrens.85-90% of sex offenders Molested or abused there OWN children.So parents if you want to keep your child safe DONT MOLEST THEM!I am a clinical psychologists and work with these people every day in Florida.Trust my words when I tell you The recidivism rate is 5.3% ALTHOUGH this includes registration violations.They ARE counted as sex offenses.Why?Federal Money thats why.The higher demand a state can show,the more Federal Grants they recieve Annually.There are no better ways to keep your children safe then to be a Parent,Its that simple.....If a offender attacks your child do you hit him or Her with a flyer you printed out?No a good parent wont let it happen period.

First of all I would like to say that I think having a site for sexual offenders is a good idea. But I do think people need to know some things about the facts of some of these offenders. My son was convicted in Febuary of 2008 on a class "C" felony for child molestation. For inproper touching. During the child hearsay hearing, the child said alot of things that did not happen. Now this child was four years of age at the time and now going on six. So "B" felony was have not of been able to stick aganist my son. After being out 5,000 dollars for attorney fees my son had to get a public defender cause I could not afford another 5,000 for his defense. And as my sons public defender said everything was going in my sons way, the next night my son called me at home and said that the attorney said you should pleaed guilty to the "C" felony and they will drop the "B" felony, not telling my son there was no way they charge him with it. He said the jury will take one look at you and say what a sick mother ------! And find you guilty for this and you could do 24 years. My son was so scarded that he agreed to this. And the mot her of this child had a crush on my son and my son only wanted to be friends with this young lady. So my son is paying for something that he did not do at this time, has to be registered when he gets out as a offender. So where is the justice here? This lady just had it in for my son, "C" felony is for inproper touching, that could mean so many things. By just picking this little girl up even. Being a victim of a violent crime myself,I use to belive in the justice system but I dont anymore! Indiana

To TJ: This is a sad case. This whole plea deal is a ruse. If people only knew to look at the facts of how the prosecutors try these cases. They don't want to go to trial so they offer a plea, it doesn't matter if the defendant if guilty or innocent, they need the convictions and will play on the fear of prison time to get them. This is a sick game they are playing and ruining young peoples lives in the process. We too had an experience with a prosecutor in MN, she was the closest thing to SATAN that I have ever encountered in my life. I have come to the realization that many people in the justice system are sick, evil people. 1 in 10 people is incarerated in the US due to these people. It is really disgusting. Good luck to your son, he has a hard road ahead of him. He will need all the support you can give him to not give up on the future and himself.

I am so glad to see M. Earley got what was coming to him. Well not all of what was coming, but he will pay. I was married to him for 5 years, he put me through PURE hell. I still have night mares, and had to move out of state due to his constant harassment, and can never come home again and live in peace because of him. No one would believe me when I tried to tell tham what he was trying to make me do, and when the state finally granted my divorce from him, and he remarried, they finally saw what he was really like. I endured 5 years of beatings and emotional abuse and lost 6 babies due to his beatings, and after 27 years later I still cannot live a normal life because of him. I hope and pray he rots in hell for what he has done, not only to me, but those kids...
