I really don't like that the state of Colorado does not list the information more publicly... The information should be more readily accessible!!!!

I live in NC and my wife & I have been dealing with issue she has from an uncle in TN who molested her 20+ years ago and her family refuses to accept it. Same thing in TN, records prior 1995 they tell us are not public and should be!

This uncle was arrested a few months ago for not reporting a new address change, was let go on bail, and now charges dropped because they say it was clerical error. Yet we know for a fact he shows his mother's address as his own, when he owns 5 acres and a house in another county and lives ther receiving a lot of his pervert mail there too.... Yet he owns a trucking business and travels all over the country which makes no sense either...?

He went to Prison in TN back in like 1996 for abusing his 2 daughters and his wife divorce dhim then, but the man was let out on good behavior never serving the term originally given..

Colorado publishes extremely little information that the public could use to ensure the safety and wellbeing of our children. We live in an affluent neighborhood and discovered just this week that a convicted sexual preditor has moved into our neighborhood (about 200 feet from a playground)!!! We learned this entirely by accident via a discussion with someone at a local daycare (not thru the elementary schools or police department). I have not been able to get any detailed information of the previous crimes, and will have to get grater community involvement to gain any information/support from the local police department (Windsor).

I don't like the fact that the state of Colorado keeps information about sex offenders private, how are people suppose to be aware of these offenders that MAY live close to them, if you won't even allow the offenders information or picture listed on this site? Who are you protecting the offenders? If they were brave enough to do the crime, then EVERYONE should know who they are

Posted by: Anonymous (not registered) on November 02, 2006 at 12:34 pm
I agree. The infromation should be posted on the website. I should not have to register and then have them ship the information to me. That's absurd!

Can someone tell me the distance a predator has to be (in CO) from a daycare? Or point me in the right direction to look? I'm not having much luck, thx.

Before you go ranting and raving about not enough information about sex offender registry, you should wonder why drug users and murders don't have their own registry.

I say this not to deflect the need for the sex offender registry, but because it is ENTIRELY incomplete. If you are going to post information about someone, you had better do it completely. My case involved me being 21 and her lying to me about being 18. These details will never make it to these websites. It won't say that it was a "liability" crime, meaning it didn't matter if she lied to me or not. The law states that if we had sex and she was under age, I was guilty, period.

If these details WERE to ever make it to the website, then we should have all details about ALL convictions on here. Just like you would want to know what I was convicted of, I would want to know if my neighbor was ever convicted of theft from his business, because then he might try and steal my car, etc.

I don't understand why do you protect the ones that did harm to someone. You should be protecting us not them!!!!

If you really want to find this information nation wide...take a look at familywatchdog.us for a complete list and MAPS of where these people are. It not only will tell you what they are convicted of but how close they live to your home or to the nearest schools. Good luck and stay safe!!

The above site explains myths and facts of the sexual offender. Information comes from Dept of Justice.

Education, not registration is the answer!

I agree with one of the comments on here, alot of sex offenders are charged because the girl or boy lied about their age. I think that in those kind of cases that it was consentual, and the girl or boy was just under age both should be charged and that would cut down on the amount of those cases because the underage person would not want to get in trouble either. But any way i dont think that all sex offenders should have to register because there are circumstances in every case that no one will be able to see. Most of them just need help not people judging them because of an mistake. And most of them were probrably victims them selves when they were kids. Dont get me wrong I dont agree with what they did but not all of them are bad people they just need help.

My 4-year old daughter was molested by my sister's husband. She (my daughter) had been examed by a doctor (O.B.) to varify the so called accusation. Of course, every parents worse night mare! she had been. The case was reported immediatily to Springfield, Colorado, and till this day April 7, 2007 the sexual predator runs free. He could be your neighbor. One will never know unless Colorado changes their laws regarding sexaul predators.

This is insane. I have a known convicted child rapist online threatening to come to my home and rape my child. he was able to get a hacker to get my address from my computer, but I come to look for his information in the state that I know he was convicted and find that HE is protected??? That I can't even find out his address even thought I know his name...... but he is free to travel to my state and no one is going to do anything until after my child is harmed or worse???? I am shocked and stunned....

THE STATE OF FLORIDA WORKS THE SAME WAY WITH THSES OFFENDERS. THEY SEEM TO HAVE MORE RIGHTS THEN THE VIC.... OUR POOR CHILDREN ARE GETTING HURT IN THE WORSE WAY POSSIABLE, AND YET WHAT IS THE STATE, OR THE LAWS DOING TO CHANGE THINGS? NOTHING

How do we get a park manger get out a offender, it is a family park, with kids?

Posted by: Hexgirl on May 13, 2007 at 03:51 pm
Lynn,
Contact your local Court House, ask to speak to the State Attorneys Office, ask them what you can do, and explain to them your situation. Contact your Local Police Dept.. explain to them your situation, see if that will help. Contact Dep. Of Children and Famly's, maybe they can help. If nothing works, contact your Local News, I am sure they would get involved. Do what ever you can to try to get him out. Tammy (Hexgirl)

Posted by: Oldtimer on May 14, 2007 at 07:08 pm
Im a bit confused. You want the registry so that you can know where the sex offender lives. So you find that an offender lives in the same trailer park as you and you want him to get out. (assuming he/she has no rights at all). And where do you want him to live now? In a city near me, there are now 625 lost offenders. Wouldn't we rather know where they are instead of forcing them to live under a bridge unwatched? It amazes me that there was never this hysteria 40 years ago when there were MORE offenders. So tell me...where is this person to go?

Posted by: Hexgirl on May 29, 2007 at 09:22 pm
No one wants them to live near anyone (Honestly) And it's good to know where they live, alot of people have children, and Grandchildren, and do not want these offenders near them, or there famly's. I know there is some offenders whom are falsely accused, and in return it's hard for them. But for the (True) Offenders no-one who has children wants them around, even if they sup... have changed while in prision. Since they are given a second chance into our society, and they live in all diffrent States, they should have areas in thses States where these offenders should live, and give the People the choice if they live there or not, that way no one gets lost, and not found to re-reg.. when the time comes for them too. Tammy (Hexgirl)

Posted by: Hexgirl on May 29, 2007 at 09:27 pm
I ment to say (Sorry) give us the people a choice if we want to live in the same area as them, but they do not have a choice they live where there told to. The children will never get a second chance, so why should they? And since they do make it the Laws choice of where they live, that way the State knows where they live, have then check in and out, have it gated with a police officer who checks them in and out. Why make it easy for them to return, it does not get easyer for the child, children, or family's these offenders hurt, especially the children. Tammy (Hexgirl)

Posted by: Oldtimer on May 30, 2007 at 12:51 pm
First of all, you must remember, Tanny, that many of these offenders were also victims. They might be your child twenty years from now! All Americans should have the right to live where they want, as long as they are not hurting others. You want them in a specific area so that others can choose not to live with them. OK, but now the laws are coming on the books that say they CANNOT live together. So live in another guys back yard, not mine is what your battle cry is. You want them locked up for life and that is not going to happen. How about letting them live where they want and letting them work towards being a good citizen? You worry about your child...this is a good thing. But , to worry all the time?...you will soon go insane if you have to worry constantly about murderers, rapists, child killers, speeders, drugs and alcohol abusers. It amazes me, sometimes, that we make it to old age at all. Personally, I think the government has some folks plain paranoid. How in the world did so many of us as kids, play outside, alone, in the city, til' dark without our mothers going nuts that we would get raped all the time?

Posted by: Hexgirl on May 30, 2007 at 10:03 pm
Oldtimer,
This will not be my son, and (IF) it happened, it would be due to the offender for messing him up because of the damage that was caused. Back in the days you came from things of this nature were not hardly spoken of, and if so they were delt with diffrent due to many reasons. Your right I do worry about my son, as well as hopeing the Laws will one day get harsher. Keeping the true offenders in prision I know will not happen, but yes your right it is what I want. The offenders whom you feel are vic.. is not something I honestly do not care about, unless they are falsely accused offenders, but the (TRUE) vic.. is the child who was molested by the offender. After seeing my son try to kill himself at 10 years of age, and seing how the State helped out the offender, more then my son makes me understand more why parents take things into their own hands, and not go to the State, or the Law about this type of subject. I hope I live a long life, and no matter if I do or don't at least I can leave this earth knowing I am a mother who cares, and is trying to make a diff. in my son's life (which I have) and others who have got hurt in the same way. I do not expect you to understand due to your background, and feelings which is fine we are on diffrent sides of the fence, and will never be able to understand how to meet hafe way. And because of that no matter what I type, or you type we may not ever agree with anything we say, or think. But Thanks for your input on how you feel, even though I disagree. Tammy (Hexgirl)

for all of you that think it should be more strict you should take in consideration the offenders feelings for example i am an offender i was convicted wen i was 13 i was just a kid got off probation wen i was 18 and now i have to register for the rest of my life for a mistake i made wen i was thirteen you have no clue how it feels to pay for that mistake every year on your birthday and every time you move so think about that ok thanx

Posted by: Hexgirl on July 08, 2007 at 04:18 pm
The offenders feelings give me a break, what about the vic... feelings. Did the vic... ask to be molested no, so screw the offenders feelings. Now in your situation I can understand your feeligns to be labled that young is wrong, if both were willing even though you were very young. But there feelings are justified enough through the laws and the states eyes that are true preditors, look at how easy they have it. So what they have to reg... as they should, if they did the crime, they should pay the time. Tammy (Hexgirl)

I agree with the majority of you, in that Colorado should do a better job of informing the public about registered sex offenders in our communities. For those who were convicted on such technicalities as consentual sex with an under age person who misrepresented their age, those facts would be known (if only complete information were posted, as many are asking for). However, those are a vast minority of the overall cases. Most offenses are NOT consentual and most offenders do repeat their crimes upon others, particularly pedophiles who repeat at a rate of over 90+%.
I would have no problem with all felony convictions of every sort being made known to the general public online. Specifically, with regard to sexual offenders though, the scars of their crimes often impact a person adversely for life and the right of society in general to know and take precautionary action, far outweighs any privacy concerns of the offender. All of us in Colorado and the country as a whole deserve better!

I hear your cries of banishment to all sex offenders and my heart breaks as obviously many of you are not educated at all to the laws. Do you realize there are kids on the registry for having consensual sex? Peeing outside? College kids mooning the frat boys? Like the politicians we should label all of them with such a broad stroke not giving a crap as we push them farther away some (the real predators) may go underground then we have no clue where they are at or live?

Educate yourself people, learn the facts and do not look at some registry and judge by what you see as sometimes the charge does not fit the details such as this case http://www.ethicaltreatment.org/mary.htm or Zach Campton case in Iowa (google it) or Genarlo Wilson of Georgia who got ten years for consensual oral sex with a fifteen year old gf...yet Josh Lunsford the son of Mark Lunsford fondles his fourteen year old gf and walks free of registration ..legally he is a adult so where are your cries of anger over this young man not being made to register cause he has a famous name? Where are your concerns for those drug dealers who are giving our kids drugs? Or the DUI drivers who can run down anyone of our children any moment cause they like to drink and drive? Do you think there is a better chance of your child being sexually assaulted more so then some drug pusher selling them dope at school? or on the streets? Again educate yourselves its the key to stop the ignorance.

I thought that we us citacens were intiteld to a free sex ofender alert $10.00 I have two kids throwing away $10.00 is hard to do expesally if its ther is not a real threat

Jessica: Im not sure what you are talking about. Your kids are paying to see who is a sex offender? Don't pay anyone for that free service.

More information would be available if it wasnt used for unmerrited witch hunts. I myself know 3 people who have to register for outlandish reasons, peeing outside a bar in wyoming, an 18 year old who had consensual sex with a 16 year old and one for grabbing a remote control out of a girls lap.
