Reno man accused of luring girls for sex

ASSOCIATED PRESS

6:34 a.m. March 19, 2008

RENO, Nev. – A Reno man is facing a federal charge for allegedly using text messages to lure a girl to meet him for sex.

Terrance Hofus, 44, was arrested Sunday near the Park Lane movie theater following a law enforcement sting operation.

A criminal complaint says Hofus was waiting on a bench and appeared to be responding to a text message sent by an FBI agent who posed as the 14-year-old girl.

Authorities say two eighth-grade girls from Sparks somehow began text messaging Hofus, believing he was a 15-year-old boy named Trevor.

At one point the girls sent nude photos of themselves. Investigators say the suspect then threatened to post the photos on the Internet if they didn't meet him for sex.
