What is 1st degree rape? Is there somewhere to get defenitions to all the terms describing sexual assault? Is 1st degree sort of minor or major???

This information is valuable, but very frightening to me. To think that there are thousands of sexual preditors in our community is very scary. I'm so glad I don't have small children. I think I'd be looking at moving, but is it any better anywhere else? What is wrong with us?
I think no matter where you live, there will always be a criminal of some sort in your area. The sadd part is it is just going to get worse as time goes on, and years pass by until things get more harsh on the way the States Laws are, instead of a pat on the back, and see ya, again because your punishments not a learning lesson, which seems to happen over, and over again anymore. The sadd part is the ones who are truely not in the criminal stero type are the ones who really get the bad end of the stick when a judge decides to do the job right, Whats wrong with this picture? I think it's crap to not list all sex offenders regardless of the level. why are we protecting them and not our children?

Let me answer Holly's question: Some (very few) DO change and as they do their level gets lowered to show they don't present a risk any longer. In Tennessee, an entire family (excluding the offender, he was at work) was burned DEAD. Because these people decided on their own that there wasn't the ability to change. In an effort to "allow" a REFORMED offender to change their lives and NOT consistantly be held accountable for a crime they have served a sentance for and have taken the nesessary steps in rehabilitating themselves. Now, I do understand that this is not always the case, in fact its rare. However I am dating one of those rare cases. I watch as no matter how he tries to move on after paying his pentance, working the counseling to become a better individual. None of it matters because SOCIETY will overlook the change, no matter how grand. Therefore the leveling system allows those whom HAVE made changes to thier lives, to be able to live and strive for a better future. I wish they would invent a registry system for crimes like MURDER or HOME INVASION, that guy could be right next door ... and you would never know it!!!

Let me post a response to AngieW. Where do you go to get your threat level changed? I have never seen a case where a threat level has changed. I am 36 and because of my charge only because of my charge I am a registered 3 threat level. When I was 16 I was charged with sexual assult on my 15 yo high school girlfriend. There was no assult she told her dad, judge everyone it was consent. That didn't matter. Its what her father wanted because in the eyes of the law she was a minor. Its been 20 years now. I have never been in trouble since!!!! Never arrested for anything. I am labeled a level 3 only because of a charge. Who am I threat to? How am I a threat. I go to work come home to my 36 year old girlfriend. I would love to have children but with the way society is and the way they judge I would not allow a child to live this way.

My husbands friend was caught peeping in womens windows and pleasuring himself several years ago. Every since I met him I had a funny feeling about him. Now I know this should I be worried about my children and myself?
Did you know?
While drugs and alcohol are often involved in sexual assaults, drugs and alcohol do not cause sexual offenses to occur. Rather, drug and alcohol use may be a disinhibitor for the offender, while being under the influence may increase a potential victim's vulnerability.
