I live in Hardin County, Tx. I have a registered sex offender next door, which is my landlady's son. He's registration on TXDPS address is unknown. What are the laws that govern this. Doesn't he have to tell where he lives. He plays with the neighborhood children and sees his own. He was convicted in '95. I don't believe in Rehab of this nature. What can I do to get this news out. He even made a pass at my 18yo, which looks like 15 when I moved in next door renting from his mother. HELP! He's freaky looking and the law is here at thier house too frequently. I've lived here for a year+ and can't count the times the county sheriff has been called on his "fits of rage'. What can a person do to protect the place in which they live and have this ppl report thier REAL address?

I would go where ever it is you have to and report the address yourself. Maybe they will come and do something then. Good luck and much prayer to you.

Making a pass at an 18 year old ain't a crime, now is it? Sure, go report him. Then they will have his address listed, and he will still live next door to you. Doesn't really protect you much, does it?

To the lady in Hardin Co. with the sex offender living next door to her. I can understand your frustrations but you said it was in 95 correct me if I am wrong. Do you know what his crime was? Obviously he is a lifetime registrar or he would have been taken off after 10 years, was his crime against a child under the age of consent in your state, or the age of 12, was it rapeof a child or an adult? Being informed is knowing these things not just assuming. I know you feel like that making the authorities list his current address seems like the right thing to do, but if it were me I would find out all I could about his offense or offenses and then decide the action to take. If they were to list his address would you feel safer? Being informed and knowing what they are capable of would spell safe to me. Put the shoe on the other foot for just a moment, please hear me out...:-) I am by no means defending this man I do not know him or his situation, however from what you have told me he has been free of this conviction for over a decade and appears to have not re-offended, although he seems to have some emotional issues that could have a lot to do with what he lives with on a daily basis. and he made a pass at your 18 yr old daughter. If it were me I would educate my children of the many dangers outside our doors, and I believe your daughter can handle the situation if it should arise again by simply saying "Not interested" and continue to avoid him. Just as she would the man on the other side making advances without his name on the registry. Their are a lot of "freaky lookin people" in the world, that does not mean they are bad! He may think the same thing about the guy across the street. I would inform people once I had knowledge of this mans conviction if it was warranted, but he has harmed no one or done no wrong to your home or anyone elses. If he reeks havoc in his home thats his home as long as he keeps it there! You can inform your neighbors should this be warranted beyond the registry. Just a little advice.. you follow your heart. While being freaky looking isn't a crime, being on the registry and not keeping an adress current is. If he's not living there then you can inform the county (city?) of that and they can look into it.

His fits of rage, regrettably if they're not directed at you or some minor, there isn't much you can do about it.

Re-offense rates for sex offenders is among the lowest - less than 5% for those who have completed treatment, while having one in the neighborhood may make you uncomfortable - it's a good bet that he's more uncomfortable!
